The Ask
Connellsville’s leadership sought to replace an aging city seal with a visual identity that better represented who they are today. The goal was to create a logo that could capture the area’s natural beauty, its beloved river and bridge, and the wealth of outdoor activities that define the region. The design needed to be flexible, recognizable, and timeless - able to live on city signage, apparel, digital platforms, and community campaigns with equal impact.
Project Information
The old seal was rich with history, but too detailed for modern use. Sparq began by distilling what makes Connellsville unique: its river, bridge, surrounding hills, and a shared sense of adventure.
Inspired by classic outdoor brands, the new logo feels equally at home on a trail sign or a T-shirt. The illustration merges modern minimalism with a vintage 1970s sensibility for a nostalgic yet fresh look. Clean geometric forms depict a bridge over water, rolling hills, and a kayaker beneath a warm sun.
The palette of teals, blues, and sun-washed orange reflects both the calm of the river and the vibrancy of sunrise over the valley. The result is a simple, scalable brand that captures civic pride and the city’s growing outdoor identity.
